Bush Shoot Out
Have you heard of the Bush Shootout game? If not, this is probably a testimony of your good taste. Generally speaking, the Bush Shoot Out is a computer game that features President George W. Bush and Condoleezza Rice who are trapped in the White House with a group of terrorists getting ready to attack. Playing up on President Bush’s Texas roots by featuring him as a gun toting defender of the free world who begins by hiding behind his desk with a gun, shooting at attacking terrorists that threaten to overrun the white House. Every hit results in blood spatters on the walls and soon the room is filled with dead terrorists.
The Bush Shoot Out game continues in the same vein for a while. Ms. Rice eventually joins the fray and players will continue winning as long as they do not fire at innocent bystanders or allow the terrorists to overrun their hiding spots. Perspectives in this game change, but by and large it is pretty much more of the same.
While not half as bad as some Bush Shoot-Out make it out to be, the disrespect shown to Ms. Rice is a bit hard to swallow, and those who enjoy the notion of her being a gun toting badass who addresses the President as sweetie should be delighted by the action that follows. For everyone else, this kind of game is wrong on a number of levels. Do not misunderstand, for those who enjoy the shoot ‘em up genre, and who like the idea of switching first and third person perspectives, this would be a great game to play, but those who did have a chance to play Bush Shoot Out time and again comment on how weird it felt to be playing the President or Ms. Rice.
Similarly, the Bush Shootout game lacks the merits of the fast moving action that accompanies so many of the shooting genre games. Granted, it is advertised as a mini clip game and as such the Bush Shoot Out delivers that which it promises, yet when it comes to overall enjoyment it is sadly lacking. Rated for the 14 and above crowd, anyone playing Bush Shoot Out may hope for a bit more substance to the action, but this is not delivered. Of course, on the flipside is the fact that, like most of the shooter games, this Bush Shoot Out is just as addictive as The Archer, a stick figure game that features the exploits of an army. It is up to you whether you want to add the Bush Shoot Out to your break games, but for the discerning player there are plenty of others out there.
