Competitive Shooting Sports

Competition shooting is the welcome alternative for many animal lovers who despise hunting. Granted, competitive shooting is not everyone’s cup of tea and some shooting competitions may take some getting used to. Yet considering that there are so many different ways of competing with a firearm and so many different aspects of the sport on which to place emphasis, there is bound to be an enjoyable shooting competition for everyone. As a matter of fact, online ads that gather to gun enthusiasts are oftentimes filled with classifieds for team and club meets!

There is, for example, the practical gun shooting competition hosted sometimes by civilians for civilians, and other times by law enforcement personnel for civilians. A bit like police training, the combination of movement with the art of the silhouette shooting competition makes for an enjoyable time. If you would prefer to attend a pistol shooting competition that uses a traditional bull’s eye target, the National Rifle Association is quite frequently sponsoring them under the appropriate moniker of Bull’s Eye Competition. If competitive pistol shooting is not to your liking and instead you would prefer to use something with a bit more power, there is the long range shooting competition involving a bench-rest or the cowboy competitive shooting sports that include silhouette shooting of animal shapes, as well as targets or any combinations thereof; youth shooting competition events are sometimes attached to the adult gatherings.

Interestingly, many of these competitive shooting sports revolve more around camaraderie than around sports, and it is not surprising to find sign-up sheets detailing food requirements for competitive shooting events ready for download together with the waivers that accompany each and every competitive shooting sports registration. The energy requirements competitive gun shooting enthusiasts expend go a long ways to explain the various potluck luncheons or dinners that are being held, and while by and large many competitive shooting sports are not physically very demanding, the number of events and the length of time the various competitions take up sometimes make a competitive shooting sports meet and all day event. If you have never checked into the various available events that are being held in your geographic area, why not hook up with a club to see where they will head to next? Visitors are always welcome, as are newbies to the sport and those who are trying to improve their skills or perhaps migrate from a different shooting skill set altogether.
